Something To Do

Some might say I’m shallow

I would describe me as a whole.

Regardless of the apt description

I’m aching for humanity’s souls.

My mission in life spreads joy and happiness,

Yet sometimes I fall from the path.

Getting caught in the vitriol and ugliness,

And stuck in their powerful wrath.

So as I continue to struggle

With our current state of affairs.

I want to keep to my mission:

Helping to mend our societal tears

Please won’t you help me reconcile,

How those filled with racism, hate

Can put themselves on a pedestal

And still claim this country as great?

Those concepts to me – antithetical

To helping others move up in their station,

Toward the great ideals of our forefathers

And return greatness to our nation.

But still, that isn’t nearly enough!

We must lead with the following broad message:

Across all peoples and places;

That love and cooperation foremost

Will help heal the rifts ‘twixt the races.

House

A House divided cannot stand

My House is a rock, an honest man

This House is a home

Better than most any other

This House is one

Just like a brother

This House is strong

To stand the test of time

The relationship long

Foundational, never on the line

In this House I sometimes seek shelter

Emotions shared, never to swelter

In this House, not alone but together

The most egregious storm,

Easy to weather
