Tears or Tears

Tears of sadness

Tears of joy

Tears for the madness

Tears for being

Tears can signal the best there’s been

Tears can tear apart the love we’ve seen

The tears at the fabric of our society

Bring tears of expanding anxiety

I rub the sleep from my eyes

finding focus

I see now,

what I’ve been looking for,

dreaming about,

better for you

we make

a love,

a life,

a family

Two become

who become

infinite possibilities

Two Limericks for Where My Head Is

Deadly Limerick

The AR-15 was built with but one intent

The bodies its bullets they rent

Civilian use can’t explain

Why those bullets still rain

Into children, to school society sent

Will More?

How many more innocents need die

Before we have no tears left to cry

We must speak up to fight

You really need this “right”

To own the AR-15, tell me why?

Working my way through this latest tragedy. I sure hope we can stop saying that. I am moved by the young people of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the passion to create change.

For What Reason

I watched Patton Oswalt say,

‘They say, “Things happen for a reason.”

Michelle Eileen McNamara would say,

“No they don’t. There’s only chaos and kindness.”‘

This struck me. Is he right? Was she right?

Well here’s what I think. Maybe there is only chaos and kindness and certainly chaos is what occurred in Parkland, Florida at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Chaos is what has occurred for a long time when it comes to semi-automatic weapons and the unfettered access we have to them. Kindness is what happens in the rebound of these repeated tragedies but that only provides temporary comfort for those with forever holes in their hearts.

I cried this morning on the way to work when I heard each name spoken with some treasured thing about each of the deceased. But they aren’t the only victims. The chaos make victims of every survivor at the school, every family and friend connected to those deceased and survived, the entire community, teachers and children every where, our nation.

The names of the deceased need to be spoken aloud to learn the depths of despair and depravity.

They were musicians, athletes, Merit Scholar semifinalists, coaches, mentors, sisters, brothers, fathers. All innocent and all part of this ongoing tragedy that only we, in the greatest nation in the history of the Earth, can do nothing about.

Say their names, go back and say the names of the other victims, giving back to Columbine and beyond. They deserve to be spoken and heard. Do something positive to get beyond the chaos and dive into the kindness. Reach out, share love. You are a human being doing.

Why Try

Why why why

Tears in our eyes

Not a dry eye

As we cry

And try to find allies

To stop standing by

As more and more die

Try try try

To stop the guy

The one that’s too shy

Who’s trained his mind’s eye

On the reply

That let the words fly

‪The Heart‬

The heart,

in love,

is the strongest,

most vital thing

in the universe

At once flexible,

resilient, and as solid

as anything ever was

With love, the heart

entwines with others

to form an impenetrable bond

Let its strength and vitality

For Gail and the world

‪Saving Grace‬

Your saving grace

The one who helped you save face

Who gave sage counsel

Who gives it to you straight

Who reigns you in

When trouble you’re getting in

How to return the favor,

Making your offering

Something to savor

Be a someone

Keep the other

From coming undone

Today is all there is

More precisely now

While we can

And should

Plan, look forward to

We must live

For now

Be here now

Do now

What needs to be done

I know now

That what needs to

Be done now

Is share

‪In the Space‬

In the space of a moment

A heart beat happened

A heart stopped

Love was created

In the space between

A period was written

A declaration made

My heart’s intentions conveyed

In the space after

A lifetime shared

New lives created

Adding to multiply

Beautiful life

‪Here We Are‬

Wherever you go

There you are

Your mind will take you

Near and far

Whoever you become

That’s who to be

So be kind and honest

How you treat them and me

And in the end

Wherever we went

Spreading love

Is the best things

We’ve sent

I love you

By far

Here we are
